CONCERT VENUE GUIDELINES:

WANT TO HOST AN MCSB CONCERT? We have certain specifications we need for places and events where we will be asked to play a concert. These are not hard-and-fast absolutes, but things we need so we can do the very best job. They are

  • A stage (or other performance area) large enough to accommodate at least 85 musicians (people, chairs, and music stands) and the percussion equipment.
  • A secure area where we can store instrument cases and other items we don't take into the performance area, such as ladies' purses, equipment boxes, and music storage boxes.
  • Easy access to move equipment between the transport vehicles and the performance stage.
  • At least 85 chairs for the performers.
  • Sufficient lighting for the performers to see their music
  • Audience seating for a minimum of 300 attendees
  • Venues must either pay us an honorarium (or find a sponsor to do so) or allow us to solicit for donations. Amount to be negotiated with the Board of Directors.

Also, nice-to-have items include

  • Music stands for the performers, the more the better. Up to 85. We can bring some, but we don't have that many; and transporting them is a major inconvenience, so if you already have them, it will make it much easier on us.
  • Stand lights on the music stands, or PLENTY of light in the venue. Many of our players are older and need more light.
  • A conductor's podium and music stand
  • A Public Address system with microphones for the narrator, conductor, and any soloists, and a speaker system sufficient to carry these individuals to the audience.
  • A meet-the-musicians reception after the concert
  • Proper sound-reflection bandshell panels behind the band
  • Helpers to set up and remove equipment before and after the concert
