TUGGA-DUT!

We sure had fun at rehearsal last night, teaching some old dogs new tricks (and some new dogs old tricks).

I was startled to hear how WELL it worked, for the first rehearsal, for all the woodwind players to learn to say “TUGGA-DUT” while playing, to be able to play those two-sixteenth-eighth note passages in Italian In Algiers up to tempo!

It certainly makes that Rossini overture MUCH more exciting, both to play and to hear, to take it up to tempo like we did last night.

SOOooo, please, PLEASE practice this on your horns for next week! Practice playing TUGGA-DUT until you can play all the notes cleanly and quickly. Try it on scales:
and on your music.

This is a great step forward for all of us; it will lend an exciting new dimension (speed!) to what we play!

RECORDING OF LAST NIGHT’S REHEARSAL

Our friend Steve Northrup (Trombone) recorded last night’s rehearsal with his digital recorder.

He tells me it really helps him to learn the music to listen to it between rehearsals. He listens to it in his car, and says he gets a lot out of it.

Steve thought you also might benefit from listening to the rehearsal, so he’s posted his recording online to share with us.

You can download the recordings (first half and second half) at the following links:

Thanks, Steve!

NORTHSIDE SUN MCSB ARTICLE

Now that the February, 2009 issue of the NORTHSIDE SUN MAGAZINE is on the stands, I checked online to see if they had yet posted the January issue, which is the one with the 4-page article about the band.

No such luck.

So I’ve emailed the editor to see if they will be posting that issue online, and if so, when? Failing that, I’ve asked if she could send us the PDF files of that article, so we can make them available on our website.

I’ll let you know if and when I hear something

CONCERT FLYER NOW ON WEBSITE

You can now download the flyer for the March 7 concert on our website, at  http://www.mcsb.us/ConcertFlyer.php  (or just go to the main page and click on the “Download Concert Flyer” button).

Feel free to print as many copies as you like, no extra charge! But WAIT! If you download in the next ten minutes, we’ll include at no additional charge… oops, this isn’t an infomercial, is it.

These flyers really do help get the word out, so give them to your neighbors, your coworkers, your friends at church and everywhere.

MCO CONCERT SUNDAY

Don’t forget the Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra concert this Sunday, April 15 at 3 PM (I think) at the St. Andrews Episcopal Cathedral.

Wayne Miller and Anne Berthold will be featured soloists at this concert, which also includes some other great music.

==========================================

See you at rehearsal next Monday!

Take care,

      David
